The Ticks are Advancing: Lyme Disease in Ontario & Quebec

Warming climates mean ticks are active longer in Canada. Why the "winter break" from tick meds is disappearing.

The Ticks are Advancing: Lyme Disease in Ontario & Quebec

Expanding Hotspots

Lyme disease, once rare in Canada, is now a major concern in Southern Ontario, Quebec, and parts of the Maritimes. Ticks stay active as long as the temperature is above 4°C, which means high-risk days are becoming more common even in late November and early March.

Check the "Hidden" Spots

After a walk through tall grass or bush, check your pet's ears, under the collar, between the toes, and around the eyelids. Ticks need about 24-48 hours to transmit Lyme, so manual removal is your first line of defence.

Tick Prevention in Canada

Talk to your vet about oral or topical preventatives. In Canada, some tick meds also cover heartworm, which is a growing threat in the Great Lakes region.
